What is the eco-eclipse system?
Energy & Environmental Systems manufacture and market a range of products and services designed to improve the efficiency of a client’s heating and mechanical system. Our products provide a comprehensive range of energy saving remote management reporting, diagnostic and control solutions. Our systems are approved for the Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme and feature on the Carbon Trust’s Energy Technology List.
The eco-eclipse brings together a unique combination of proven self adaptive software algorithms and innovative hardware to create specialised and intelligent boiler management systems for natural gas, LPG and oil fired boiler plant. These systems significantly reduce fuel consumption and in turn heating cost and CO2 emissions, but without any loss of performance or comfort levels. The software analyses all factors that can affect the operation of a heating system and constantly updates the on-board database. The self adaptive functionality then utilises this data to identify the best possible plant performance for specific building/temperature requirements and a more efficient boiler firing pattern than previously experienced.
Eco-eclipse control systems are commissioned either: on-site via a fascia mounted LCD monitor and soft touch programming buttons or, remotely via the on-board GSM module and a remote PC. The comprehensive programme menu incorporates not only all energy conservation and temperature settings but also all necessary control functions to facilitate plant safety and integrity – e.g. frost and boiler back end condensation protection.
The combination of the eco-eclipse, its integral GSM module and our copyright PC communication software package provides remote programming, monitoring and safety solutions for a client’s heating and mechanical systems. These solutions are enabled by data sourced from sensors and transducers, either wireless or hard wired.
What is the eco-eclipse system?
The remote PC communication software package, via a GSM module on-board the eco-eclipse boiler management system, allows the user to access and manage all remote eco-eclipse outstations. This management capability includes:
-
Viewing current plant status.
-
Uploading all streamed data i.e. various temperatures, pressures, etc.
-
Altering commissioning parameters.
-
Managing the stored data of all polled outstations.
-
Remote Firmware upgrades.
The PC communication software package is loaded onto a dedicated PC in the client’s office. This data is capable of being imported into standard Windows Office tools for reporting and presentation purposes. The client can view the data from two perspectives; historical and current.
Historical data
Every week, the PC communication software automatically polls all the listed eco-eclipse outstations to download all the previous week’s data. This data is stored on the dedicated PC to provide a complete graphical history of all the parameters being measured on site.
Current data
If a client wishes to obtain a current picture of the information being gathered at a particular eco-eclipse installed outstation, then the PC communication system can be instructed to conduct an immediate poll of that particular outstation. Once the information has been retrieved it is displayed in the normal weekly graph form.
The information retrieved during polling includes all the temperature readings generated by the installed temperature sensors (both RF and hard wired), burner usage status (time/duration) and the status of any additional installed transducers.
The PC communication system allows the user to remotely change various boiler management parameters within the eco-eclipse at individual outstations. This ensures that energy management at each site is correctly maintained and by being remote is also a very cost effective management tool. The eco-eclipse boiler management system has three levels of security access to prevent inappropriate settings being programmed.
Monitoring & Safety Solutions
The eco-eclipse, through its monitoring sensors and PC communications package, can provide clients
with immediate information enabling them to remotely;
-
Monitor the gas consumption at each site and immediately calculate its costs.
-
Quickly identify faults and breakdowns in the boiler and mechanical systems.
-
Monitor gas and/or water pressures.
-
Monitor cold water storage tank temperatures to check for temperatures that could encourage the growth of the dangerous legionella pneumophila which leads to the possibility of legionnaire's disease - thus reducing the costs of regularly sampling and analysing water in cold water tanks to test for this possibility.
-
Detect gas leaks and burner over/heat, which replaces the conventional "fire circuit".
How the eco-eclipse saves energy
The key features of the eco-eclipse boiler management system are:
-
Self adaptive software algorithms for optimisation; compensation and boiler sequencing.
-
Radio transmission for temperature sensors and pressure transducer data.
-
GSM communication system for remote management control and diagnostic checks.
Our system's objective is:
"To fire the least number of boilers, at the lowest possible temperature, for the shortest possible time, without compromising specified space temperature set points, or mechanical integrity."
Specifically the eco-eclipse boiler management system reduces energy consumption by the following:
Optimisation
Utilising data supplied from internal and external temperature sensors (RF or hard wired), the eco-eclipse will calculate the optimum plant "start" time. The same software process is also used in calculating the optimum "off" times (plant "end" time). Night set back can be incorporated as part of the overall optimisation function. The ecoeclipse manages night set back via optimised temperature reductions within variable time periods, as opposed to fixed day and night switching periods.
Compensation
Compensation is defined as the increase in boiler flow temperature that is required to offset a decrease in external air temperature. Using data from internal, external and flow temperature sensors, the eco-eclipse utilises its self adaptive compensation algorithms to calculate the highest possible compensation ratio (also defined as the lowest possible boiler flow temperature); whilst still maintaining the clientʼs required internal temperature set point.
Sequencing
Sequencing calculates the required number of boilers to meet any given load demand. The ecoeclipse, through self adaptive sequencing algorithms, manages the boilers in three control stages to determine:
- The total number of boilers needed to match the load.
- The number of boilers to run continuously.
- The firing time of the remaining (noncontinuous) boiler by calculating the boiler percentage firing rate, each and every firing cycle.
The calculated flow set point is maintained within a pre-set, narrow temperature band. Managing the boilers in this fashion eliminates dry cycling and also spreads the load over all boilers thus reducing boiler wear.
