The London Borough of Camden is working in partnership with Energy & Environmental Systems Limited to install Eco Eclipse Boiler Energy Management Systems into their major housing blocks within the borough with the objective of cutting the consumption of gas for heating and hot water and thereby substantially reducing their CO2 emissions.
So far Energy & Environmental have installed these systems into over 30 blocks of residential flats and they aim to install them in a further 70 blocks. On completion of this programme it has been calculated that Camden will be reducing their damaging CO² emissions by approximately 4,000 tonnes per annum.
Furthermore in the first part of 2006 the London Borough of Camden undertook a review of all its residential sites as part of a substantial capital investment project. Camden not only wish to further increase the Borough’s energy saving capabilities, but has asked Energy & Environmental Systems to provide a remote diagnostic, management and monitoring system which increases the level of safety reporting within its many boiler houses.
In order to extend the services provide by Energy & Environmental Systems into other areas of Camden an independent energy consultant was appointed to monitor the performance of an Eco Eclipse system installed in a multi-story, multi-block residential site. Savings of 25.1% were recorded over a 28 day period, without compromising residents’ comfort levels. This attractive level of savings achieved by the eco-eclipse, coupled with the ability of the systems to provide a comprehensive remote, GSM based, management and safety reporting service has resulted in plans for installations in other parts of Camden including for the Education and Health & Safety departments.
In addition the Eco Eclipse through its monitoring sensors and communications system will provide Camden with immediate information enabling them to constantly:
- Detect gas leaks and provide fire protection.
- Monitor gas pressure, a requirement if the Local Authority is a gas supplier.
- Monitor cold water temperatures to check for temperatures that could encourage the growth of the dangerous legionella pneumophila which leads to the possibility of legionnaire’s disease - thus reducing the costs of regularly sampling and analysing water in cold water tanks to test for this possibility.
- Monitor the amount of gas used at each site and immediately calculate its cost.
- Quickly identify faults and breakdowns in the boiler system.
- Monitor water pressure.
Camden's Housing Manager Mike Hollister said of Energy & Environmental Systems:
"We are very pleased to be associated with Energy & Environmental Systems who provide us with excellent customer service and at the same time the savings they generate and their service continues to be impressive. We look forward to extending our relationship with them"
