Maintaining a consistent comfortable temperature is the most energy- and fuel-efficient way to heat care homes and yet it can be difficult to achieve.
Many care homes find staff and residents control the heating by keeping it on all the time and controlling temperature by opening and closing the windows, which leads to resident discomfort and a high fuel bill.
The eco-eclipse boiler management system is specifically designed to meet the very particular temperature maintenance requirements of care homes. It consistently maintains the required ambient temperature by firing boilers only when required – which keeps residents comfortable while saving on fuel and CO2 emissions.
It is in everyone’s interest to keep fuel costs to a minimum and savings made on fuel can be used to reinvest in resident and staff comfort.
Specifically the eco-eclipse will help you by:
- Saving money on fuel bills
- Providing readily accessible information about the performance of the heating systems including fault recognition - all of which reduces the number and cost of emergency calls outs and adds to efficiency and reduces your workload.
- Efficient retrofit installation of the system using wireless sensors into existing buildings.
- Reducing carbon emissions and helping you to meet your increasing obligations to do so
- Providing thermal disinfection and monitor cold water temperatures to assist in the management of the risk of legionnaire’s disease
- Extending the life of your boilers by eliminating dry cycling and by providing load dependent sequencing and lead boiler rotation.
We have worked with many care home groups including Barchester Healthcare, Leonard Cheshire Disability, Keychange Charity, Sanctuary Care, ExtraCare, St Christopher’s Hospice, Notting Hill Housing, Somerset Care, Brendoncare, Central & Cecil and Prime Life, amongst others.

Who else has it worked for?
Case study – Barchester Healthcare
Barchester Healthcare is one of the UK’s most respected care home companies, providing award-winning healthcare to thousands of residents throughout the UK. E&ES ran a trial of the eco-eclipse at Wood Grange Home, Lincolnshire, which is a modern Barchester care home. It comprises 68 rooms and communal areas. Heat and hot water are supplied by three Ideal Concord gas boilers and controlled by a Landis & Staefa RVL55.
The eco-eclipse provided remote control and monitoring of the site’s boiler plant and also trialled potential energy savings. During a month long “day on, day off” test, where the eco-eclipse controlled the existing boiler systems every alternate day, it recorded savings against the existing boiler controls of 34.8%. These savings were achieved without any loss of comfort to the residents.
As a result of this performance, Barchester and E&ES worked together to identify other homes within the Barchester portfolio that would benefit from the installation of eco-eclipse systems. We have been working since June 2009 to roll-out the eco-eclipse to 159 sites in total.
"The results that E&ES have achieved for us are impressive. I am also pleased to say that the service and support levels E&ES have provided continue to be of a very high level. This level of services is ably supported by the Remote Management System which is a very exciting management tool."
