The ExtraCare Charitable Trust was formed in 1988 and currently operates 28 supported housing schemes
and retirement villages throughout the greater Midlands area and the North.
ExtraCare aims to work in line with Government directives in reducing CO2 emissions, and is committed to
reducing energy bills to invest more improvements to these pioneering Villages.
In 2007 the ExtraCare Charitable Trust agreed to trial the eco-eclipse boiler energy management system at
Terryspring Court in Redditch. Terryspring Court has 58 apartments heated by three Regency gas boilers.
£15,000 per annum was spent on heating.
After running a 28 day ‘day on / day off’ test, the eco-eclipse installation resulted in a 22.8% saving
on energy and CO2 emissions. E&ES are now engaged in a programme to install their systems into 14 of ExtraCare’s
Care Home Villages.
“We are very pleased with the results of the trial and Energy & Environmental’s attention to the requirements
of residents. We are now planning to extend installations to other suitable village schemes. A 22.8% of our
annual gas spend on 14 villages is a great saving and will give us the edge when planning our growth.”
